The provincial department reports land preparation and support commitments following the Dlebe launch.
Fertiliser for a 50-hectare planting programme in the Ulundi area will be issued after soil-test results are received, according to KwaZulu-Natal’s agriculture department.
Its 5 October account of the launch held on 3 October at KwaGuqu in Dlebe says samples had been collected and 35 hectares prepared. The planting allocation covers 30 hectares at KwaGuqu and 20 hectares at eMkhiweni.
Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli and agriculture MEC Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa attended the launch. The department also reported the handover of a dip tank at KwaNqindi.
Support still to be delivered
The department says the women-led Vukuzakhe vegetable cooperative is to receive fencing, irrigation, inputs and market support. These are commitments; the statement does not establish that all equipment has been installed or that sales contracts have been secured.
For participating growers, the next measurable steps are completion of land preparation and delivery of the promised services. A launch announcement alone does not establish a harvested crop.
