The October schedule raises the maximum per-hectare amounts under the existing measure. Growers should distinguish those limits from the charge on an individual invoice.
The next annual band of statutory fruit-fly control levy ceilings took effect on 1 October 2026 for the production regions covered by Government Notice R.5229.
The amounts apply for the year ending 30 September 2027. They form part of the schedule published in September 2024, rather than a new nationwide levy announced this week.
The notice assigns administration to FruitFly Africa. Its limits differ by production area, as the table below shows. The comparison is in rand per planted hectare.
Maximum amounts for the new cycle
| Region | 2025/26 | 2026/27 |
|---|---|---|
| Langkloof: Joubertina, Krakeel, Louterwater, Misgund, Noll, Waboomskraal* | 2,075 | 2,220 |
| Langkloof: Avontuur, Haarlem, Ongelegen | 797 | 853 |
| Lower Orange River: table grapes | 1,862 | 1,992 |
| Hemel & Aarde Valley | 1,873 | 2,004 |
| Warm Bokkeveld | 2,307 | 2,468 |
| Wolseley | 2,018 | 2,160 |
| Tulbagh | 2,358 | 2,524 |
| Hex River Valley, including De Wet & Brandwacht | 2,717 | 2,907 |
The first Langkloof group excludes tree nuts, specified as almonds and pecans. The Lower Orange River entry applies to table grapes.
Across these entries, the increase in the ceiling is approximately 7%, calculated from the gazetted amounts. Actual billing should be checked against the applicable annual arrangements; the ceiling is not proof that every producer receives an invoice at the maximum.
Different measures should stay separate
A separate notice, R.6973, governs the Elgin/Grabouw and Vyeboom integrated-control schedule on a July-to-June cycle. Its calendar should not be substituted for the October dates in this notice.
There is also a distinct 2026 measure for an ad-hoc Bactrocera dorsalis eradication levy, published as R.7737 in July. That measure addresses an eradication programme in specified regions. It should not be confused with the annual integrated-control amounts listed here.
The practical starting point for checking a levy account is therefore the notice number, the production region and the period covered. Comparing amounts without those three details can put different programmes or years alongside one another.
This report sets out the scheduled ceilings. It does not establish the total fruit-industry levies payable by a particular business, confirm an individual planted-area assessment or report a new eradication outcome.
